Cuban Five win a new trial

It has been a long time coming, but justice will prevail in the case of the five Cuban patriots wrongly charged and convicted in the United States. The US Circuit Court of Appeal has issued a decision that agrees with the findings of the UNHCR Working Group on Arbitrary Detention in declaring the original trial of the five to have been unfair. This is the news we have been waiting for since the appeal hearing in March 2003.
Details have not yet emerged about what will happen next—whether the five political prisoners have to apply for bail in the area where they are held or have to apply in Miami.
This result is a small but very significant one and is due in the main to the worldwide campaign of solidarity with these five men. It is just the first step in getting the men freed and back home to their families in Cuba.
