June 2012

Dear Sir/Madam,
We, the undersigned, wish to draw your attention to the continued detention of Marian Price, which we feel constitutes an alarming breach of human and civil rights.
Marian had previously served a long jail sentence in England and in the North and was released and pardoned in 1980 due to ill-health resulting from force-feeding over many months in 1973 and 1974.
Marian Price was arrested in May 2011 on the basis of charges which have since been dismissed. At the time she was granted bail for those charges and has also been granted bail on subsequent charges brought against her, yet she remains imprisoned by order of Owen Paterson, British Secretary of State, who claimed to revoke her licence.
Marian’s health and welfare are at the forefront of this campaign and she has been declared too ill to attend court after spending over a year in isolation.
Marian Price is the victim of psychological torture and internment without trial, and as a result of this her mental health and physical health has deteriorated rapidly. Given the concerns about her very poor health, we are calling for her immediate release based on humanitarian grounds.
     Yours sincerely,
Gerry Adams TD; Dr Kieran Allen (School of Sociology, UCD); Richard Boyd Barrett TD; John Browne TD; Cllr Christy Burke; Joan Collins TD; Michael Colreavy TD; Seán Crowe TD; Senator David Cullinane; Clare Daly TD; Margaretta D’Arcy (Women in Media Entertainment); Dr Ciarán Dawson (Centre for Oral Irish, UCC); Pearse Doherty TD; Cllr Pat Dunne; Dessie Ellis TD; Martin Ferris TD; Cllr Mannix Flynn; Cllr Melisa Halpin; Joe Higgins TD; Cllr Vincent Jackson; Cllr Hugh Lewis; Mary Lou McDonald TD; Sandra McLellan TD; Pádraig Mac Lochlainn TD; Fr Seán McManus (Irish National Caucus, USA); Fr Peter McVerry SJ (Centre for Faith and Justice); Cllr Louise Minihan; Monsignor Raymond Murray (human rights activist); Senator Darragh O’Brien; Jonathan O’Brien TD; Caoimhghin Ó Caoláin TD; Senator Trevor Ó Clochartaigh; Éamon Ó Cuív TD; Senator Brian Ó Domhnaill; Dr Órla O’Donovan (School of Applied Social Studies, UCC); Cllr Damien O’Farrell; Dr Féilim Ó hAdhmaill (School of Applied Social Studies, UCC); Senator Labhrás Ó Murchú; Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD; Maureen O’Sullivan TD; Cllr Cieran Perry; Thomas Pringle TD; Cllr Anna Quigley; Senator Kathryn Reilly; Cllr Niall Ring; Cllr Bríd Smith; Brian Stanley TD; Peadar Tóibín TD; Senator Jim Walsh.
