A song for Palestine

The Lives of Strangers

Eoghan O’Neill

A time has passed
When all that was left
Was brothers in arms.
Fallen tears drop.

When boundaries were set up
And with it a country new
Now those walls they can talk
And if you listen they’ll talk to you

Since that time has passed
What else could they do?
But put brothers in arms
Against an army’s missile drops.

Young kids playing outside a school
Their gentle minds being brought up in ruins
They don’t face the same problems as we do
It’s not sea shells that dot the schools classroom

I read it in the papers
I see it in the news
The lives of strangers
Being so abused

How long will it last?
How many more will have passed?
A people been tested and tried
Arrested, beaten, crucified.

This is genocide
Children terrorised
Mass media compromised
Racist laws destroying lives

I read it in the papers
I see it in the news
The lives of strangers
Being so abused
