At the end of 2014 two books were published that recount the activities of the Irish volunteers who went to Spain to fight fascism in the years 1936–39 as part of the International Brigades. Their leader, Frank Ryan, rose to become an outstanding commander and leader. Readers are recommended to read a review of the books by Manus O’Riordan at www.albavolunteer.org.
