Reclaim the Vision of 1916

International Poetry Competition, 2016

Following consultations with some of its patrons and supporters working in the arts, Reclaim the Vision of 1916 is delighted to announce that we will shortly launch an International Poetry Competition. We are grateful to Poetry Ireland for their advice.
Inspired by the strong links between poets and poetry and the Rising, the theme for the competition will be “The Vision of 1916: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow.”
A significant prize will be awarded to the writer (or writers) of the winning poem (or poems), as adjudicated by a panel of respected poets. All poems will be judged anonymously. Original submissions will be invited from those over the age of sixteen, living at home or abroad, and should not have been previously published. To reflect the competition’s theme and the inclusive nature of Reclaim the Vision’s broader initiative, entries may be in English or Irish or in any of the languages in common use in Ireland today (with English translations).
It is expected that the formal launch will take place before the end of 2015, with submissions to be received by 29 February 2016, in time for the announcement of the winner (or winners) on or about the hundredth anniversary of the Rising on 24 April 2016.
Thereafter the winning poem, together with a selection of other submissions, will be published by Reclaim the Vision as a souvenir anthology of the competition.
