Disgraceful breach of diplomatic privilege
On Thursday 26 May the state held a ceremony in Grangegorman Military Cemetery, Dublin, to honour the British forces that took part in the suppression of the 1916 Rising, with the participation of present-day representatives of those forces. A protester who shouted “This is a disgrace!” (as indeed it was) was assaulted by the Canadian ambassador to Ireland, Kevin Vickers, and dragged for several yards, until the protester was arrested and charged with “public-order offences.”
The perpetrator of the assault has not been charged with any offence. A number of Canadian citizens have demanded that he be recalled, so far without any effect. |
